For decades we designed bedrooms right up to the edge of the mattress. We found the bed, sewed the drapery in our Ann Arbor workroom, hung the shades that keep a 6 a.m. June sunrise on the right side of the glass. Then our customers drove somewhere else to buy the one thing they’d actually sleep on. That never made sense to us, so we changed it.
Mattress stores have a reputation, and most of it is earned: pressure, mystery markdowns, salespeople paid to push the priciest floor model. Esquire works differently. Our designers never earn commission, so the advice you get is about your sleep, not a quota. Sleep is part of the design
A mattress is furniture you use eight hours a night, and it deserves the same attention as everything around it. We already do the rest of the room: the bed frame, the bedside pieces, custom drapery sewn in our own Ann Arbor workroom, Duette® shades in room-darkening fabrics that put you in charge of the light. Now the mattress itself comes from the same floor, chosen to suit the room it lives in.
That matters more than it sounds. A dark, quiet room does half the work of a good mattress, and a good mattress is wasted in a bedroom that wakes you at dawn. Sleep is a system. We build the whole thing.
Try it the slow way
Our mattresses are on the floor of the Ann Arbor showroom at 6235 Jackson Rd. Wear comfortable clothes and bring your own pillow if you like. Lie on your back, your side, the position you actually sleep in, and stay a while. A designer will answer questions or leave you alone entirely, whichever helps you think.
When you’ve decided, we handle delivery and setup anywhere from Plymouth and Northville to Saline, Dexter, Chelsea, and Canton. Your new mattress goes where it belongs, and you sleep on it that night.
Straight answers, honest prices
Our designers are paid the same no matter which mattress you take home, and that changes the whole conversation.
