Furniture & Upholstery
Furniture made for your room, not a warehouse
Custom Norwalk upholstery, Amish-built solid wood, Norwegian recliners — and a designer who plans the whole room without earning a dime of commission.
Walk into our Ann Arbor showroom and you’ll notice the furniture isn’t arranged to push inventory out the door. It’s set up so you can sit in things, compare fabrics in real light, and figure out what your room actually needs. Our designers don’t work on commission, so the recommendation you get is the piece that fits your space, your budget, and your life.
Most of what we sell is made to order. Norwalk builds sofas and chairs to your specs in hundreds of fabrics, with a lifetime warranty on frames and foam — page through the current Norwalk catalog. Barkman’s solid-wood pieces are Amish-built. Fjords recliners come from Norway, designed around how people actually sit. And if a standard size won’t clear the stairwell of an older Ann Arbor house, we’ll order to your measurements.

Upholstery, your way
A Norwalk sofa is built for you, not pulled from a stack. Pick the frame, the depth, the arm style, the cushion fill, then choose from hundreds of fabrics, including performance weaves made for households with dogs and juice boxes. The frame and foam carry a lifetime warranty — these are the sofas that get reupholstered in twenty years instead of replaced.
Choosing from hundreds of anything is easier with help. Sit with one of our designers, tell them how the room gets used, and they’ll narrow it to three or four fabrics worth debating. No commission means no steering. Just an honest read on what will wear well.

Solid wood and hand-forged metal
Barkman furniture is Amish-built from solid wood: tables and bedroom pieces with the kind of joinery you check with your hands. Canal Dover works American hardwood into dining tables and casegoods sized to your room. For metal, Charleston Forge hand-forges its pieces here in America, and Amisco builds clean-lined Canadian seating and beds that stand up to daily use.
We chose these makers the same way you’d choose furniture: for what still looks right after ten Michigan winters.

Plan the room, not just the piece
Bring photos and rough measurements, and a designer will help you plan the whole room — what to keep, what to replace, and what order to do it in so the budget stays sane. Fabric and finish samples can go home with you, where colors read the way they actually will, even in the flat light of a Michigan January.
When the plan is set, we special-order each piece to your specs. And because nobody here earns a commission, nobody minds if you start with one chair.

Designers, not salespeople
Nobody here works on commission. The piece we recommend is the one that fits your room and your budget.
Made to your specs
Frames, fabrics, finishes and sizes ordered to your measurements, so the furniture fits the room instead of the other way around.
Lifetime frame & foam warranty
Norwalk backs its frames and cushion foam for life. These sofas get reupholstered decades from now, not replaced.
Samples in your own light
Fabric and finish samples go home with you, so color gets judged in the room it will actually live in.

FAQ
Questions, answered
It depends on the frame, the size and the fabric grade, so the honest answer is a range. Your designer will price options at whatever budget you set before anything is ordered, and made-to-order often costs less than people assume. Our Best Price Promise applies here like everywhere else in the store.
Come sit on a few things at the Ann Arbor or Plymouth showroom — it’s the only honest way to choose a sofa.
