Window treatments

How does a window treatment project work at Esquire, start to finish?

August 21, 2026

Some people put this off for years because they aren’t sure what they’re getting into. So this is the entire process, start to finish, the way it actually happens. There are six steps and most of them are easy.

It starts at the showroom

Come to Ann Arbor or Plymouth with photos of your windows and rough sizes. The Ann Arbor design center is Michigan’s largest Hunter Douglas showroom, and everything in it is full size and working, with hundreds of drapery books besides. A designer walks through it with you. Nobody here is on commission, so the conversation is about the room and not the ticket. By the end of the visit you’ll usually have the scope: which windows, roughly which products, roughly what budget.

Then we come to you

Once the scope is set, a designer brings your finalist fabrics and samples to your house. You see them in your own light, next to your own paint, which is the only way to be sure. Every window gets measured professionally, and the measurements are guaranteed; if something is specified wrong, that’s our problem to fix, not yours. There’s no charge for this visit.

A written quote

Everything is priced before anything is ordered, and it’s covered by our Best Price Promise: find the identical product for less and we’ll match it. Then you take whatever time you need.

It gets made

Hunter Douglas builds each shade to your window’s dimensions, typically in three to five weeks. Drapery is cut, sewn and pressed in our own workroom in Ann Arbor, usually four to six. Shutters take longer; your designer quotes the current lead time. We let you know as the dates firm up.

Our people install it

We schedule installation for the week the order arrives. The installers are Esquire employees. They hang everything level and true, set up and program any motorization, show you how it all works and take the packaging with them. The installation carries a lifetime warranty.

And afterward

Five warranties stand behind the work. And because we’re the Hunter Douglas service center for southeast Michigan, the people who fix a shade ten years from now are the same ones who sold it to you.

That’s it. The first step is the easiest one, and it’s just walking into the store. Bring photos.
